HERD INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in Noble-Springs Toggenburgs and Saanens. Though we began raising and breeding dairy goats in the early 1990s there is more history to our involvement with dairy goats than just that. As infants my brother and I were allergic to cow's milk so my parents decided they were going to raise us on goat's milk. They spread the word that they were looking for goat's milk to buy and feed my brother and I. For a while my parents were buying milk from farms in the area. One day my dad came home from work and there was a man in his pickup truck with two Nubian does in the back. He told my dad that one was milking and the other came with her as a companion because you cannot keep just one goat. He allowed us to keep them and milk the doe as long as we needed and told my parents he would come pick them up when we were done with them. As it turns out the man was Johnny Cash's farm manager and the goats were Johnny Cash's son's goats. When I was about ten years old I decided I wanted to raise and show some kind of livestock. We did not have the land or resources to have cattle so I thought I wanted some sheep. My dad recalled that the sheep he had in his childhood years on his father's farm were not as personable as the goats we had when my brother and I were babies so he decided to buy me a couple goats. In the spring of 1992 we purchased three brush goats and soon after they were replaced with a few recorded grade dairy goats. I went through several breeds until I decided to raise only Toggenburgs and Saanens. The Saanens were sold off in the late 1990s to concentrate all efforts and resources to one breed.

Most of my Toggenburgs descend from CH Hurricane-Mills Jessabelle FS 89 (VEEV). I had intended to keep an all purebred herd but now the majority of my Toggs are Americans. As a breeder I strive to be competitive on the National level. I have realized that there are more excellent genetics available if you do not limit yourself strictly to the purebred genetics. After all purebreds and Americans all show in the same breed classes. The last several years I have been carefully selecting herd sires not only from does that have consistently placed at or near the top of their class at ADGA National Shows but from does who who have several generations of Nationally competitive animals behind them.

My parents are fond of the Saanens for their temperament so in 2002 I brought them back into the herd with the reintroduction of 1*M GCH Noble-Springs Xavier's Janie. In 2003 I decided that I wanted to bring more Saanens in and did so at the 2003 ADGA Spotlight Sale with the purchase of Irish Valley MFA Vreneli who was the first place intermediate kid at the 2003 ADGA National Show in Des Moines, IA. More Saanens were brought in in the spring of 2004 with the purchase of McQuitty-Farm True Blue, Willow Run Lancelot Montana, and her daughter sired by Windsor-Manor AA Victor, McQuitty-Farm WMV Merleyse.

Every animal in the herd has tested negative for CAE. In the past years every animal was pulled and raised on heat treated colostrum and pasteurized milk.
